Vanished The Saved Series Book 2 edition by Lorhainne Eckhart Literature Fiction eBooks

I did not realize Vanished was the second in a series. Based on the reviews of the first book I probably would have never made it to this one had I read it first. Abby has a lot of issues she has to deal with. She walks out one night after feeling like the walls are closing in on her. She thinks the guy who had kidnapped her and kept her for years, raping and torturing her, was back and was after her. She couldn't let him get her.

Eric was...a jerk. Sure he seems like he might love his wife, but he doesn't care about her well being enough to actually try and see it from her point of view and give her what she needs to get better. So apparently he finds her in the water pregnant having escaped her captors. He doesn't get her help for the psychological trauma she went through. Somehow they meet and fall in love right away and get married. They haven't been together that long, and she went through years of horrible abuse and somehow she thinks that will never catch up with her? She will never have an issue with that?

So when Abby disappears Eric is on the other side of the world and he flies right home. We are not shown much of him trying to find her or anything. It just suddenly skips to the day he finds her again. He is understandably upset, but he never once tries to see everything from his wife's point of view. She is terrified and trying to get help so she can be whole once again, and she cannot do that if she goes home with Eric. Eric doesn't make it easy on her, or even try and see if he can see her again or anything. Really he doesn't understand how she could have left so he just says screw her. So she has issues, so she doesn't think she is capable of taking care of her kids right now, so screw her. So she went through something horrific for years not that long ago. So he never got her help dealing with it. So what. Screw her, I am moving on. It is like right away he start to bring a replacement in for Abby because he needs someone to take care of his kids. He seems like a real catch...everyone seems to like him for some reason, but he is just a huge jerk to me. He seems to think his wife should just cook and clean and take care of the kids and be fine even when she isn't. He seems a little domineering and I didn't like him at all. I wasn't sure why they both loved each other. I didn't see the connection.

So then everything gets wrapped up nicely suddenly. It is like Abby is fine enough all of a sudden. It doesn't seem to be that much of an issue then. Everything is good. It was a little too easy. Everything was a little too easy. We never really saw the difficulties with any of these things. We didn't really even see the difficulties Abby faced and how she dealt with them. We just come in at the end of the process where she is good enough to try and move on.

Vanished The Saved Series Book 2 edition by Lorhainne Eckhart Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

WOW!! I've had this book for awhile & never got around to reading it.... my bad! We hear about PTSD in men all the time, but in women? And in one who's never served in the military? Unusual to say the least & not acquired in the expected fashion. This book moved quickly showing both sides of the coin & how the spouse needs as much support as the victim.

Engrossing story of love, loss, & rediscovery of love.... & how it affects the family, a marriage, the children & your friends.

If you're looking for a serious story w/a lot of questions answered & not.... this is a great choice.
Vanished is the second book in The Saved Series. In order to understand what is going on, you need to read book 1, (Saved) first. I enjoyed the first book so much, I bought the second book. It was ok, but the first book was the best out of the two. In this book I got really frustrated with Eric. In the first book Abby had been kidnapped, and sold to a master, rapped, and then saved by Eric, and his crew. In Vanished she is dealing with PTSD. In her mind she thought the person that had kidnapped her, was after her again. She couldn't tell what was a night mare, and what was real life. For a long time Eric didn't even try to help her. I can't go into anymore, without giving away the book. I am happy he finally understood, and was there for his wife. The series has another book, but I think I will stop with this one. I was just so frustrated with Eric, and I didn't think he tried hard enough, or groveled enough for the marriage to magical be okay.
This author bravely tackles some difficult subjects and I applaud her for that. I would rather read a romance with a message and real story than another kitschy, cupcake fluff story. In this book, a new face of PTSD is shown. Men come home from war and just disappear but what happens when a mother does? It is difficult for the whole family and when lives are at stake, at what point do you have to let the damaged one go? This is that story. I did think Eric initially turned his back way too soon and was confused about another issue. Eric is a seasoned Navy captain of destroyers and battleships. His minimum salary would be almost eighty thousand a year. That's not a great amount but not small beans. They are portrayed as living paycheck to paycheck and residing in a three bedroom box house on base, which was a struggle for Abby when Eric was away. That didn't make sense to me because he'd spent years being single and away. Easy to save and put money back and in the first book the author made it sound like he'd lived simply.
PTSD - how much does the lay person really know? How visible and recognizable are the signs to the average person?

Two years after Eric rescues Abby from a sex trafficker, everything seems fine. At first. It's when their baby boy is born that Eric notices something seems a bit off. Then he tells Abby that instead of shipping out in 3 months, he's shipping out in a week.

Abby hasn't told Eric about the nightmares. That she doesn't sleep very much when he's not there. That she only feels safe when he's there. She doesn't tell him that she feels isolated and that there's no one she feels she can ask for help - that she's been told that military wives don't tell their husbands that anything is wrong at home so they don't worry about something they can't do anything about thousands of miles away. Not even when Eric's best friend and his wife live right next door.

After Eric deploys, Abby starts having blackouts and thinks she sees her abuser in a busy shopping mall. One night she disappears from her home....

Poor Abby didn't only have PTSD, she had Post Partum Depression thrown in for good measure! Just how much to you want to throw a one poor young woman?! The questions become does she finally get the real help she needs? What about her family? Her marriage? I cried and I cheered - it was worth it!
